Renewals, Holds, and Patron Library Accounts

You may renew library materials over the phone by calling 619-236-5800 (press 1, then 3) or by calling 858-484-4440 (press 1, then 3) OR

Access your (Library card) patron account information:

  • to renew titles
  • to view a list of titles checked out
  • to view any fines
  • to view pending holds
    (holds ready for pick-up show an expiration date within 8 days)
  • to change your PIN (Personal Identification Number)

You will be asked for your library card number and PIN, which should be the last 4 digits of your home telephone number. If your PIN does not work or you have questions, please call or visit any San Diego Public Library location.

To have an available title held for you or sent to another San Diego Public Library location at no cost, call the Library branch which has the title. For titles available at Central Library, call (619) 236-5800.

To place a hold on a title which is checked out or on order, locate the title in the Catalog. Click on the title of the item to see the Full Record. Click on the "Place Hold" button or link, then follow the instructions on the screen.

Inquiries are submitted through the City's secure server. All personal information is kept confidential.
