Accessible Beaches

For information about service dogs at the beach, please go to Your Dog and City Parks.

The City's motorized beach wheel chair program is available to individuals with mobility disabilities or those who are not otherwise able to walk unaided on the beach. There will be no service in January. Weather and beach conditions permitting, the service will be available Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Regular service should start again in April. Regular hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Days and times are subject to change.) Reservations are not required, but are recommended. To reserve, please call (619) 525-8247/TDD (619) 692-3866. For more information, please view the Therapeutic Recreation Services calendar (PDF: 768K).

The City also provides seasonal wheelchair ramps at the beginning of April through the beginning of October. They are located at La Jolla Shores, Pacific Beach (between Thomas Street and Grand Ave.) and in Ocean Beach at Santa Monica Ave. Installation is dependent on the condition of the various beaches and only the path at La Jolla Shores goes as far as the high tide line.
